NBDE Part I & II Overview | Exam Pattern | Scoring Guide | Fees Structure

NBDE – National Board Dental Examination, dental exam which is conducted by American Dental association (ADA) for students who want to pursue post graduation and specialties after dental degree in United States. Every student or dental professional who wants to have admission in United States Dental School in Advance programs have to give NBDE.

National Board Dental Examination (NBDE) is further divided into two parts that is:
1. NBDE Part I
2. NBDE Part II

NBDE Part I: The first part of the NBDE exam consists of 400 different multiple choice question on basic sciences which are as follows:

1. Human Anatomy, Embryology and Histology
2. Biochemistry and Physiology
3. Microbiology and Pathology
4. Dental Anatomy and Occlusion

NBDE Part II: The second part of the NBDE consists of clinical dental topics and requires 2 days. The topics from which question are asked are as follows:

1. Endodontics
2. Operative Dentistry
3. Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Pain Control
4. Oral Diagnosis
5. Prosthodontics
6. Pharmacology
7. Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry
8. Periodontics
9. Patient Management –¬†Behavioral Science |¬†Dental Public Health and Occupational Safety

Eligibility Criteria:

For taking admission in United Sates of America, a student or professional must have completed his/her dental graduation. Any student from India or any other Asian countries can is only eligible if he has graduated in dental studies.

Exam Pattern:

NBDE Part I:
1. One can give NBDE Part I exam only if he has cleared his dental studies. Part I of the NBDE exam consists of basic science studied during graduation.
2. NBDE Part I consists of 400 multiple questions which has to be answered in period of 8 hours 30 minutes including 30 minutes optional break.
3. Performance in exams is given through number/percentage (Pass/Fail).

1. Part II is normally is taken during 3rd and 4th year of graduation in dental.
2. Question in Part II consists of 9 subjects which are discussed above.
3. NBDE Part II exam is 2 day process. On first day student has to answer 400 questions in 7 hours and 100 case based questions on second day in 3 hours 30 minutes.

Exam Fee : $395
Results Audit Fees : $65

Rescheduled NBDE Part I Exam Fees
1. Prior 1 to 5 business working days before exam : $100
2. Prior 6 to 30 business working days : $60
3. Prior 31+ days : $25

Exam Fee : $440
Results Audit Fees : $65

Rescheduled NBDE Part II Exam Fees
1. Prior 1 to 5 business working days before exam : $100
2. Prior 6 to 30 business working days : $60
3. Prior 31+ days : $25

(Saturday and Sunday are excluded in working days)

Scoring Guide:

Student has to score in between 75 marks which is minimum pass score of NBDE Part I. Score range depends on experts through standard setting activities.

The result of the NBDE Part II will be only Pass/Fail. If students fails then he will shown marks in every subjects.
